Trent Hilbrands (Remsen, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Northwestern College in the fall of 2017. Hilbrands is the first to sign for the 2017-18 class.
Hilbrands has been blessed with excellent coaches at LeMars Community High School (Dave Irwin) and on his AAU team, "The SD Attack", (Lee Taylor). He has played in big games in the Lakes Conference, at the Iowa High School State Tournament and in various tournaments during the spring and summer on the AAU circuit.
"Trent is a tough, physical guard who makes the game easier for his teammates," commented head Northwestern College basketball coach Kris Korver. "He can score the ball but is at his best when he is putting people in the right spots and making others look good. Trent is a proven winner and one of the best point guards in the state of Iowa."
Hilbrands earned third team all-state honors after his junior season at LeMars and was named a second team all-Preps Hoops Dakota's for AAU last summer. He averaged 23.9 points-per-game, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and almost two steals per game in 2015-16. Hilbrands averaged 11.1 points and three assists as a sophomore, leading his team to a runner-up finish at the 3A state tournament.
"Trent has attended Northwestern Basketball camps since fifth grade and we already feel like he is part of the family" stated Korver. "He has a closet full of NWC basketball camp awards, including the Kyle Vande Berg MVP Award from last summer. We believe Trent is going to be a difference maker in our program and we are excited he is the start of what we hope to be a fabulous recruiting class."
Hilbrands, the son of Dean and Becky, will join his brother, Tanner, at Northwestern College.
