Northwestern College came back from a 5-0 deficit to win game two 13-9 and complete a sweep against Concordia in the conference opener for both teams played today in Seward, Neb. The Red Raiders won game one 4-3 and improve to 13-10 overallĀ
Trailing 5-0 after two innings, Northwestern plated seven runs in the fifth inning off six hits and a Concordia error.Ā Jessica SandbulteĀ led off with a solo home run, her second of the season.Ā Mons FigueroaĀ andĀ Madison BeaverĀ followed with a double and single, putting runners at second and third and chased Concordia starter, Kylie Harpst.Ā Jensen BogerĀ reached base off a Bulldogs error, scoring both Figueroa and Beaver, to make the score 5-3. The Red Raiders loaded the bases and thenĀ Cheyenne WilckeĀ belted a grandslam for her team-leading fourth home run of the season, giving NW a 7-5 lead.
Concordia scored four in the bottom of the fifth, all with two outs, to retake the lead at 9-7. Northwetern, however, closed the game with six unanswered runs, five in the sixth and one more in the seventh.Ā
Beaver led off the sixth with a single and came around to score on an RBI double byĀ Jessica Rayela. Bri Petrauskas drove in Rayela with a single, advanced to second on the throw and came around to score after a double by Wilcke.Ā Katie ElliottĀ followed with a single, stole second and then scored, along with Wilcke, on a single by Sandbulte.Ā
Boger had an RBI double in the seventh for the Red Raiders final run.Ā
Morgan MeansĀ (5-5) earned the win, giving up 12 hits and nine runs in six innings.Ā Kayla TindallĀ pitched a scoreless seventh to close it.Ā
Beaver led the Red Raiders with three hits from the leadoff spot while six players all had two hits, including Rayela, Boger, Petrauskas, Wilcke, Elliott and Sandbulte. Wilcke drove in five and Sandbulte added three RBIs.Ā
Northwestern held off a Concordia comeback in its 4-3 game one win.Ā
The Red Raiders led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh but Concordia, already with one run across to make it 4-2, loaded the bases with one out, chasing NW starter Tindall. Means came in and forced Taryn Thomas into an RBI groundout, scoring Janey Pasold from third to make it a one-run game. Means then got Michaela Woodward to fly out to right field, giving the Red Raiders the win.
Tindall (8-5) gave up six hits and three runs in 6.1 innings to earn her eighth win of the season. Means earned her first save in getting the final two outs.
Northwestern totaled seven hits, led by Petrauskas with three singles. Rayela smacked a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, giving NW a 4-1 lead. Wilcke added an RBI single in the sixth.
Woodward (5-4) picked up the loss for Concordia, who had its three-game win streak snapped and drops to 13-7 on the year.
