Northwestern College split a non-conference double-header against Bellevue played tonight in Bellevue, Neb. The Red Raiders dropped game one 8-0 (6) and came back with an 8-0, five-inning win in game two.
The Red Raiders are 11-10 as they head into their GPAC opener on Saturday, March 18 in Seward, Neb.
Kayla Tindall (7-5) led the Red Raiders to their game two win, earning her second shutout of the season. The junior gave up just three hits, walked two and struck out eight in five innings. Tindall improved her record to 7-5.
Offensively, Northwestern plated all of its runs in the third inning, totaling six hits and sending 12 players to bat in the eight-run inning. Cheyenne Wilcke hit a two-run double, Jessica Rayela delivered a two-run triple and both Madison Beaver and Jessica Sandbulte added RBI singles.
Beaver (2-4, 2 runs) and Rayela (2/3, 2 RBIs) were the top hitters.
Northwestern was limited to five hits by Bruins starter Kelli Fisher in its 8-0 game one loss. Fisher recorded eight strikeouts and improved to 12-3.
Rayela went 3-for-3 with a double and both Beaver and Wilcke had a single.
Morgan Means (4-5) took the loss, giving up 13 hits and six earned runs in five-plus innings.
Northwestern opens GPAC play against Concordia on Saturday, March 18 at 1/3pm in Seward, Neb.
