Red Raiders Shoot Past Doane, 100-84

No. 13 Northwestern College cruised to a 100-84 road win against Doane in a GPAC match-up played this afternoon in Crete, Neb. 

The Red Raiders improved their record to 11-4 in the GPAC, 21-5 overall, and moved just one game behind Dakota Wesleyan for first place in the conference standings. 

Colton Kooima scored a game-high 32 points, his sixth game with 30+ points this season, and Derek Buysse netted a career-high 23 for the Red Raiders. Justin Van Kalsbeek scored all 14 of his points in the second half and Jordan Baker chipped in 11 points to go with eight rebounds. 

How It Happened...

With the game tied at 24 after a back-and-forth opening 12 minutes, Northwestern surged ahead for good with a 17-5 run, capped by a Derek Buysse three-pointer, to take a 41-29 lead. The Red Raiders went 5-for-7 from the field and Buysse knocked down a trio of three-pointers during the run.

The Red Raiders held a 10-point lead, 51-41, at the break. They shot 65% over the first 20 minutes and went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. 

Northwestern pushed the lead to as much as 23 points in a second half that they led by double digits for all but 30 seconds.

Northwestern scored 100 points for the seventh time this season

The Red Raiders shot 55% for the game, 42% (8/19) from the three-point line; Doane went 45% from the field and 33% (6/18) from the arc. 

Doane held the edge at the free throw line; 16/17 compared to 10/15 by NW.

Northwestern dominated the boards, 43-30, and pulled down 12 on the offensive side.

Baker led the Red Raiders with eight rebounds and both Buysse and Nathan Wedel pulled down seven each

Wedel dished out a season-high six assists

Mykell Tzul led Doane with 24 points and was one of four Tigers' players in double figures.
