Northwestern College earned a 7-1 win in game two to salvage a split of a doubleheader against Benedictine (Kan.) played this afternoon in Atchison, Kan. The Red Raiders lost game one 9-2 and move to 1-3 on the season.
Madison Beaver went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs and Jessica Rayela added two hits and drove in a pair of run to pace the Red Raiders' six-hit attack in game two.
Scoreless heading into the fifth, Northwestern grabbed a 2-0 lead after a run-scoring single by Beaver and a sacrifice fly hit by Bri Petrauskas.
The Red Raiders opened up a 7-0 lead with five more runs in the sixth. Jensen Boger belted an RBI double for the first run and Beaver followed with a two-run double, scoring Boger and Emily Sones. Jessica Rayela added a two-run single later in the inning.
Kayla Tindall (1-1) picked up the win, giving up three hits and one earned run through three innings of relief. Morgan Means pitched three scoreless innings to start the game. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
Northwestern totaled five hits in its 9-2, game-one loss to the Ravens. Mons Figueroa had two hits and Rayela, Katie Elliott and Cheyenne Wilcke all had one hit for NWC.
Means (0-2) took the loss, giving up nine hits and five earned runs in four innings. Tindall pitched the final two innings of relief.
Leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third. Benedictine scored three in home half of the third and put the game away with a four-run fourth inning. Alex Burris, Carney Meade and Molly Chevalier all had two hits for the Ravens, who totaled 10 hits in game one.
