No.5 Northwestern College stayed unbeaten on the year with 99-50 win over Fisk (Tenn.) in the final game of the Defenders Classic played today in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Red Raiders improve to 9-0 on the year while Fisk drops to 6-3.
Derek Buysse dropped in a game-high 22 points to go with a season-high nine rebounds to lead Northwestern. One night after making a career-best seven three-pointers, Buysse drained six of his nine attempts from beyond the arc.
Riley Francis registered a double-double for the second straight night, posting 19 points and 12 rebounds. Both
Colton Kooima and
Nathan Wedel added 12 points each.
How It Happened...
Northwestern scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed against Fisk; a three-pointer by Francis followed by baskets by Buysse and Wedel finished off a 14-5 Northwestern run to put the Red Raiders up 28-14.
Leading 33-21, Northwestern put the game away with a 14-0 run that began with a Kooima three-pointer and ended with a jumper by Francis to give their team a 47-21 lead just before the half.
Free throws by
Spencer Pauley put Northwestern up 30 (57-27) in the opening moments of the second half; the Red Raiders led by 40 with eight minutes left.
