Game Time...No.11 Northwestern College concludes its regular season with a weekend trip to play Hastings on Saturday, Nov. 11. Kickoff at Lloyd Wilson Field is scheduled for 1pm. Northwestern, in the hunt for a bid into the NAIA Football Championship Series, is coming off its bye week and sports a 6-1 record in the conference, 8-1 overall. Hastings, in the possible spoiler role, is 2-5 in GPAC play, 5-5 overall.Â

All-Time...Northwestern is 18-10 all-time against the Broncos dating back to the first initial meeting in 1986. The Red Raiders have had the edge of late, winning the last 10 match-ups and have not lost to Hastings since the 2004 season. The teams did not play against each other both in 2008 and 2009.Â

Last Year...Northwestern accounted for over 600 yards of offense in its 48-16 win over Hastings in the Homecoming game played in Orange City. The Red Raiders totaled 627 yards on offense, fifth most all-time, led by the passing of senior quarterback Jonathan Kodama, who threw for 408 yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Kalogonis had a big day rushing as well, totaling 192 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt. Senior wide receiver T.J. Spykstra turned in a record setting day, totaling eight catches for a school-record 239 yards and a touchdown.Â
After Hastings opened the game's scoring with a 20-yard field goal by Nick Giaffoglione, Northwestern scored 20 unanswered points for a 20-3 lead. Paul Hutson reached the endzone with a pair of short runs and Kodama connected with Levi TeBrink for a 20-yard score. Hastings scored just before the first half ended on a 97-yard kickoff return by Tahj Willingham making it 20-10 at the half.Â
The Broncos capitalized on another big play early in the third quarter when quarterback Cruz Samaniego completed an 82-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Johnson, cutting the Red Raider lead to 20-16. It was all Northwestern thereafter as the hosts scored the final 28 points, beginning with a couple of touchdown passes from Kodama to T.J. Spykstra (65yards), followed by one to Kalogonis (13-yards). Kalogonis then opened the fourth quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run and Kodama completed the scoring with a 10-yard pass to Jared Nelson.
Defensively, Northwestern was led by Donavan Weldon and Blake Eichmann with five tackles each while
Nick Acoba registered two his team's season-high six sacks.Â
Samaniego led the Broncos with 208 yards of offense, completing 11-of-21 passes for 182 yards and a score. He also rushed for 26 yards on nine carries. Johnson caught four passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
