Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Unbeaten Streak Continues for Red Raiders

The Red Raiders drew with Concordia 0-0 as they had to travel to Sioux Center to host the Bulldogs. The NWC Soccer Complex was bogged down due to the 7 inches of rain Orange City had seen over the past four days and Northwestern was able to use the Sioux Center Public Stadium for the battle of undefeated teams.

The 0-0 score line does not indicate how many chances both teams had on the night. The Raiders had 7 corners on the night but Concordia had 17 shots on goal. Each team was great defensively and was able to hold the other once they entered the 18 yard box. Many shots were blocked by sliding players and ultimately, the score line stayed 0-0.

Naomi Schimmel came up big for the Raiders in many different moments including three 1v1 situations where she was able to thwart each attack with big saves. The back line combination of Sarah Beaton, Taelor Lamansky, Ashlee Speck, and Sabrina Tarchione were able to force longer shots from the Bulldogs and block better chances that they created.

The Raiders earned their 9th shutout of the season, a school record. Northwestern has not allowed a goal since conference play has started. The record breaking start has been fueled by the defensive side of the ball but the Raiders have also 28 goals on the year, good for 2.15 a game.

"You always are happy when you can get results against top teams in your conference," commented Head Coach Ben Karnish. "We played well and ladies stepped up in big moments for us and we almost grabbed the game late."

The Raiders look to continue their unbeaten and shutout streaks in conference Tuesday when they visit Dordt College on Tuesday, October 10. Kickoff is at 1pm.
