Northwestern went on the road Wednesday and came away with a 4-0 win against the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan University. The Raiders are 3-1-0 in conference play and 7-4-2 overall after the win.
The night started off strong for the Raiders as they generated many chances in the first half but they finally broke through in the 21st minute off a goal from
Morgan Newby. Newby was played through by
Tyler Limmer and faced the keeper one on one but took a big touch around and as a defender recovered, he chipped the ball back post over the keeper. The first half ended 1-0 for the Raiders after
Matt Scott was able to make a few saves to keep the score in favor of Northwestern.
The second half started off well for Northwestern as they earned a few corners in the first few minutes and were able to capitalize on it in the 53rd minute when
Isaac Wong's corner was hunted and headed down by Jacob Garcia Nieto into the back of the net. It was Jacob's first goal of the season.Â
Newby's brace came only 7 minutes later off a great build up by NWC. Garcia Nieto played a great long back to
Alex Schussman who hit a low, hard ball across the face of goal where Newby flicked the ball on with his back heel into the back of the net. It was a great build up and finish for the Raiders.
The final Red Raider goal came in the 80th minute when
Cole Cruse was able to get behind the DWU back line and was fouled on his way into the box.
Tyler Limmer stepped up to take the penalty and buried it into the bottom corner. It was Limmer's team leading 8th goal of the season.Â
The Raiders take on the Bulldogs from Concordia University Saturday at 7:15pm at the NWC Soccer Complex.Â
