The Red Raiders went on the road Tuesday to Dordt College and came away with a 1-0 victory over the Defenders.Â
Northwestern dominated a good majority of the possession in the first half but were not able to capitalize on having the majority of the ball. Dordt was able to get numbers behind the ball and make it difficult for the Raiders to get quality shots and play in the attacking third.
The lone goal came in the 39th minute from one of the few times the Raiders were able to break Dordt's backline and a shot from
Tyler Limmer screamed past the keeper and was saved from the net by Eric Bourdo's hand while on the goal line. This resulted in a straight red card for Bourdo and gave the Raiders a penalty kick. Limmer stepped up to take the penalty and buried it in the bottom right corner for his 11th goal of the season. It was also his second converted penalty kick of the season.
Though the Raiders had a numerical advantage for the rest of the game, they were held to less shots and less chances by the Defenders. The Raiders went from 8 shots in the first half to 3 in the second half.
Matt Scott is credited with the shutout, his and the team's 7th shutout of the season. Scott made four total saves on the day.Â
The Raiders next match is on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:15pm when they host Morningside College.Â
