Northwestern, Midland Clash In Top 20 Match-Up

Game Time...Northwestern College begins the second part of its season Wednesday night as play No.20 Midland in a GPAC showdown between ranked teams. Tip-off in Fremont, Neb. is scheduled for 8pm. Northwestern, ranked fourth in the latest coaches' poll, is 7-0 in conference play, 17-1 overall. Midland is tied with Briar Cliff for third place in the current GPAC standings with a 4-2 record, 11-5 overall.

All-Time...One of the longest standing rivalries for the Red Raiders, Northwestern holds a 65-26 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to the 1960-61 season. They are 6-4 over the last 10 match-ups, winning both games against the Warriors last year.

No.20 Midland Warriors: 4-2 (T3rd), 11-5  Head Coach: Oliver Drake (2nd year)

Coming off an impressive 81-78 win over MidAmerica Nazarene (NAIA D-I), Midland boasts a 4-2 conference record, 11-5 overall. Ranked 20th in the latest coaches' poll, the Warriors are tied with Briar Cliff for third in the conference with a 4-2 mark. They have GPAC wins over Concordia, Mount Marty, Dordt and Morningside and have losses to Dakota Wesleyan and Briar Cliff. They are 3-3 over their last six games.

Formerly the head coach at Ashford University, Drake is in his second year on the Midland sideline. Drake spend five years at Ashford, leading them to three NAIA D-II Championship appearances. He returns two starters and four players from last year's team that finished fourth in the GPAC with a 12-8 record, 16-14 overall. Five transfers, three of which are from Ashford, join this year's team.

Northwestern Notes...Earning its highest ranking since the 2006-07 season, Northwestern has won 17 straight games and bring a 7-0 GPAC record into Wednesday night. They are 17-1 overall, their second best start in program history.

Northwestern is one of the highest scoring teams in the NAIA, averaging 92 points per game. They also rank among the best in field goal percentage (51%) and in rebound margin (+14). Defensively, Northwestern is giving up 76ppg.
