Northwestern College gets a full dose of conference play this week with three matches in a span of five days, beginning with a Tuesday night showdown against Mount Marty in Yankton, S.D. First serve is scheduled for 7:30pm (no JV match). The Red Raiders will then host College of Saint Mary on Friday night (Sept. 16) at 7pm (note time change, once again, no JV match) and then head to Crete, Neb. for an afternoon match against Doane on Saturday, Sept. 17.Â

  Mount Marty Lancers-0-2 (GPAC), 5-5: Head Coach Frank Hebenstriet (2nd year)
The Lancers are off to an 0-2 start in conference play, losing to Dakota Wesleyan and Briar Cliff. They are 5-5 overall on the year, winning three of their last four matches. Mount Marty has wins over Presentation, Mayville State and Valley City State and a loss to Waldorf last time out.Â
Coach Hebenstriet is in his second season as the head of the Lancers' volleyball program and returns five starters and 10 players from a 2015 team that finished tied with four teams for eighth place in the GPAC (3-13), 8-22 overall. Sierra Kloth, a two-time all-conference player, leads the team in kills (3.2) and hitting percentage (.221). Bre Thege, an all-conference pick in 2014, averages a team-best 2.6 digs per set.Â

  College of Saint Mary Flames-1-1 (GPAC), 5-3: Head Coach Samantha Hammond (7th year)
The Flames own a 5-3 overall record and are 1-1 in GPAC play, losing to Doane in three sets but earning a five-set win over Morningside on Sept. 10.Â
Coach Hammond returns two starters and four players from a 2015 squad that tied for eighth in the final GPAC standings with a 3-13 record, 13-17 overall. They defeated top seed Dordt in the GPAC quarterfinals but lost in the conference semi's to end the year. Cassidy Yong returns as the team's setter after earning all-conference honors last year. Yong directs a Flames' offense that is hitting .189 this season.Â

  #20 Doane Tigers: 1-1 (GPAC), 11-3-Head Coach Gwen Egbert (4th year)
Off to an impressive 11-3 start, Doane has climbed to 20th in the most recent NAIA coaches' poll (Sept. 6), one of five GPAC teams recognized in the poll. They are 1-1 in conference play, losing to Hastings (3-0) on August 31 but earning a 3-0 win over College of Saint Mary. The Tigers have five wins over ranked teams so far this season; Warner, Lourdes, Jamestown, Rocky Mountain and Evangel.Â
Coach Egbert is back for her fourth season as the head of the Tigers' program and returns five starters from a 2015 team that finished sixth in the GPAC with a 9-7 record, 19-13 overall. Shelbi Mlynczak is the top returner, earning second team all-conference honors last year. Kaitlin Bradley puts down a team-leading 3.9 kills per set, hitting at a .326 clip.Â
