Lauryn Hilger put down a career-best 20 kills in leading Northwestern to a four-set (26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23) win over No. 25 University of Jamestown (N.D.) in the final match of the Red Raider Classic. Earlier in the day, Northwestern dropped a match to Bellevue (Neb.) in four sets, 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20.Â
Northwestern is now 2-6 on the season.Â
Hilger hit an impressive .447 and totaled 20 kills in 38 attempts to lead the Red Raiders attack. Hilger has now hit for double figures in seven of the eight matches. Joining the sophomore in double figures were junior Jessica Jensen, who put down a season-best 17 kills, and Andrea Horstman, who matched her career-high with 11 kills.Â
Jessa Doom directed a Red Raider offense that hit .303 for the match, lofting up 49 assists to go with 12 digs and five kills. Jillian Estes led the defense with 22 digs and both Hilger (15) and Brooke Van Gorp (12) were also in double figures.Â
University of Jamestown was led by Morgan Hensch with 18 kills and Siri Jystad put down 11.
Northwestern hit .113 in its four-set loss to Belleuve earlier in the day. Jensen reached double figures with 12 kills, followed by Horstman with 11 kills and two blocks. Hilger recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.Â
The Red Raiders will host Dakota State on Wednesday night at 7:30pm.Â
