Birks, Gustafson lead Red Raiders To Third Straight Win

Haley Birks scored a career-high 28 points in leading Northwestern College to an 81-65 road win over College of Saint Mary in a conference match-up played in today in Omaha, Neb. 

The Red Raiders won their third straight game and improved to 3-3 in GPAC play, 9-3 overall, while CSM dropped to 0-5 in league play, 2-7 overall. 

Birks shot 9-for-13 from the field and converted all nine of her free throw attempts en route to a new career high. She also pulled down six rebounds and had two steals. Darbi Gustafson recorded her third straight double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 7-of-13 from the field. Chanda Zomermaand scored 15 points coming off the Red Raiders bench, draining a trio of three-pointers. 

How It Happened...

Northwestern outscored the Flames 23-15 in the first quarter and limited the hosts to just 25% from the field en route to a 46-27 halftime lead.

By the Numbers...

Northwestern shot 45% for the game and a season-best 60% (6-for-10) from beyond the arc; the Red Raiders made 25-of-28 free throws while CSM went just 6-for-11 from the field

The Red Raiders were outrebounded by one, 40-39

Birks scored in double figures for the ninth time this season; this was her third 20+-point game of the year

Gustafson has scored in double figures in four straight and six overall games; the sophomore has five double-doubles

Renee Maneman dished out six assists and pulled down seven boards

Justice Ross led the Flames with 15 points and seven rebounds
