Baker Tip-In Gives Northwestern 94-93 Overtime Win Over Waldorf

Box Score

Jordan Baker tip-in gave Northwestern a thrilling 94-93 overtime win over Waldorf in a non-conference match-up played in Forest City, Iowa. The Red Raiders pushed their win streak to 10 games, their longest since winning 13 straight in 2007-08.

Northwestern improves to 10-1 on the year while Waldorf slips to 3-6 overall.

Colton Kooima poured in 36 points to lead the Red Raiders scoring effort, going 13-for-28 from the field, including a season-high six three-pointers. Derek Buysse drained five from the three-point line en route to a 19-point effort and both Nathan Wedel (14) and Baker (10) were also in double figures.

How It Happened...

Waldorf led for much of the first half and led by as many as nine (36-27) following a lay-up by Leland March with 3:14 left

Northwestern made it a four-point game (36-32) by halftime, closing with a 5-0 run off a three-point play by Nathan Wedel and a put-back by Baker

The Red Raiders surge continued as they grabbed their largest lead of the game at that point, 49-45, following a three-pointer by Buysse and a lay-up by Parker Mulder.

The lead switched hands eight time over the next five minutes as the teams traded baskets. Down four (63-59), a Buysse three-pointer began a 16-4 Northwestern run that put the visitors in front, 75-67, with under five minutes to go. Kooima knocked down three consecutive three-pointers to cap the NWC run.

Waldorf responded with a 13-2 run, led by June Prowell, who knocked down a couple of three-pointers to put the hosts back on top 80-77 at the 1:23 mark.

Kooima and Wedel both converted two free throws, giving NWC a one-point lead (81-80) but Powell drew a Northwestern foul and made 1-of-2 free throws to force overtime.

A Buysse three-pointer followed by a Kooima and-one put Northwestern in front 90-85 early but back-to-back three-point plays by Waldorf put the hosts back up one, 91-90.

The teams traded free throws and with Waldorf still up one, Kooima missed a jumper but Baker followed it with a tip-in, putting Northwestern up for good, 94-93, with three seconds left.
