Box Score Northwestern College dropped its second straight game as they lost to Doane 83-78 this afternoon at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders fall to 0-3 in the GPAC, 6-3 overall, while Doane wins its GPAC opener and improves to 5-3 overall.
Kassidy De Jong matched her career-high with 32 points, going 12-for-22 from the field. The sophomore made a season-high five three-pointers and also pulled down five rebounds. Darbi Gustafson registered her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds, making 6-of-7 field goal attempts. Renee Maneman also registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
How It Happened...
Hanah Barnard and Jenna Nieveen combined to hit four three-pointers over the first 3+ minutes in leading Doane to a 12-6 lead.
Northwestern scored the next 15 points en route to a 23-4 run to close out the quarter and take a 29-16 lead. Consecutive three-pointers by Chanda Zomermaand and a jumper by Haley Birks put NW on top by 15 before Barnard made the Tigers first field goal in over six minutes to close the quarter.
Doane came storming back, shooting nearly 70% in the second quarter, to make it a four-point game, 45-41, at intermission.
Tied at 53 in the third, Doane moved ahead for good with an 8-0 run, capped by a Barnard three-pointer, and led 61-56 at the end of the period. Northwestern made just four field goals and shot 36% in the quarter.
Doane extended its lead to 11 (75-64) with four minutes left before Kassidy De Jong drained back-to-back three-pointers to make it a two-point game, 80-78, with 39 seconds left.
The Tigers made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
