Avery Geesaman joined the Northwestern staff as Director of Esports in December 2025.
He had success in his first semester in the role, coaching the Raider Overwatch team to the NECC Division I playoffs, marking Northwestern's first-ever Division I playoff bid. Overwatch was later given an invitation to compete at the FORGE Scholastic Esports Championship, where they finished fifth. In the same timeframe, Geesaman led the Raiders to GPAC Championships in all three titles: Rocket League, Overwatch, and Smash Bros Ultimate.
Prior to coming to Northwestern, Geesaman coached at Shenandoah University (Va.) during his time as a student. With a primary emphasis on Smash, he has served under Shenandoah's Director of Esports to lead practices, coordinate match schedules, and be a primary contact to competition coordinators, tournament organizers, and league officials.
"I am elated to continue my dream of pursing an industry that is growing in so many ways," Geesaman said. "Northwestern's culture of excellence and their strong commitment to serving Christ are especially exciting aspects that I look forward to participating in. I wish to continue to influence young people to be humble and hard-working through their chosen competition outlet."
In the role, Geesaman leads Northwestern's three esports titles of Rocket League, Overwatch, and Smash Bros Ultimate.
Hailing from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Geesaman graduated from Shenandoah University (Va.)Â in December 2025 with a degree in esports management.
