ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College opened its home schedule with a 1-0 shutout of Viterbo on Friday night at the NWC Soccer Complex.
Morrison gave the Raiders the lead in the third minute when he found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. The Raiders put the pressure on early, earning two corners in the opening 18 minutes and continued to threaten throughout the opening half, with Gorka Ilundain, Juan Miranda, Gonzalo Domingo and Bram Zwinkels all testing the Viterbo defense before closing out the first half with a 1-0 lead.
Viterbo managed only three shots in the second half and put one on goal, but Edoardo Alessandrini turned it aside to preserve the shutout. Northwestern continued to generate chances after the break, including shots on goal from Zwinkels, Jovany Kabongo and Morrison as the Raiders protected their advantage.
The Raiders finished the with seven shots on goal compared to two for Viterbo and earned four corner kicks. Alessandrini recorded two saves in the shutout, which marked his third win of the season and Northwestern's third straight victory to begin the year.
The Raiders controlled the attack throughout the match, finishing with an 18-8 advantage in shots and putting seven attempts on frame. Northwestern also limited Viterbo to eight total shots and just two shots on goal.
