GPAC Releases Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern women's soccer team was picked ninth in the GPAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced today.

The Red Raiders went 7-8-2 last year in their first season under head coach Vitor Pereira, finishing shy of the conference tournament field with a 3-6-2 conference mark. Northwestern returns nine players from its starting eleven, led by First Team All-GPAC selection Aliza Edwards and honorable mentions Lucy Staines and Mya Cole.

Edwards is back for her senior year after a breakout season in which she led the team in goals (11), assists (6), and points (28). Staines was second on the team in goals (6) and assists (4), while other multi-goal scorers included Cole, Olivia Regnerus, Marissa Talamantes, and Camryn Wilkinson.

Northwestern received 42 points in the poll. Hastings was picked to win the conference with 114 points and seven first-place votes. Morningside followed in second with 110 points and five first-place votes. A vote from the league's head coaches determined the results. Coaches could not vote for their own team.

7. Dakota Wesleyan – 64 pts.
8. College of Saint Mary – 56 pts.
9. Northwestern – 42 pts.
10. Briar Cliff – 41 pts.
11. Midland – 23 pts.
12. Waldorf – 11 pts.

The Raiders will open the year on August 22 at William Penn (Iowa).
