Northwestern Claims First Two of Series Over Waldorf

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Raiders maintained momentum on Friday night, never trailing in a doubleheader sweep of Waldorf.

GAME 1: NWC 11, WU 7

How It Happened
Northwestern secured an 11-7 victory over Waldorf in game one, maintaining consistent scoring throughout the game. The Red Raiders tallied 10 hits and 11 RBIs, with a strong start by scoring three runs in the first inning.
 
Northwestern opened the game strong with three runs in the first inning. After Ranier Castillo was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on Devin Dirkx's single, TJ Silliman, who pinch ran for Dirkx, scored along with Castillo on a triple by Nikolai Wede. Wede then scored on a sacrifice fly by Grant Guidry, giving Northwestern a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
 
In the second inning, Brody Ayers singled and stole second before advancing to third on a flyout. Tyler Schroeder's sacrifice fly brought Ayers home, extending the Raiders' lead to 4-0 through two innings.
 
The Raiders continued to build its lead in the third inning. Castillo and Wede reached base with a single each, and both scored on a double by Guidry. Calab Caciari's single brought home Guidry, resulting in three runs for Northwestern to put the Raiders ahead 7-0.
 
In the fourth inning, Waldorf got on the board with a solo home run by Dylan Battye. The Raiders responded with two runs, aided by a fielding error and a sacrifice fly by Dirkx, making it 9-1 after four innings.
 
The Warriors closed the gap in the fifth inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Elijah Guemez. Northwestern's bats were quiet in their half of the inning, maintaining a 9-4 lead after five innings.
 
Waldorf added three more runs in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs from Andrew Herrin and Cameren Rindone. Northwestern then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Jack Craig, pinch running for Kevin Rubio, scored on a double by Grant Rychnovsky, and Rychnovsky later scored on a fielder's choice by Wede. The score was 11-7 in favor of the Raiders after six innings.
 
The seventh inning saw no changes in score, and the Raiders secured an 11-7 victory over the Warriors.

  • Nikolai Wede hit a triple and a single, driving in three runs and scoring twice.
  • Ranier Castillo went 2-for-2 with two runs.

How It Happened
Northwestern claimed the second game of the weekend over Waldorf with a 15–8 win, powered by a strong offensive performance that included three home runs and 13 total hits. The Red Raiders scored in six different innings, highlighted by a six-run burst in the sixth.
 
In the second inning, Calab Caciari hit a solo home run to put the Raiders on the board. An error allowed Brody Ayers to reach base, and he later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Red Raiders a 2–0 lead.
 
The third inning saw continued scoring from the Raiders. Devin Dirkx singled, followed by a Nikolai Wede double. Dirkx scored on a sacrifice fly by Grant Guidry, and Caciari hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, extending the lead to 5–0.
 
The Warriors responded with two runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a triple from Jack Kamalski. However, the Raiders added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth, thanks to a two-run homer by Dirkx, making it 7–2.
 
In the fifth inning, Waldorf closed the gap slightly with two runs, aided by a fielder's choice and an error. The Red Raiders answered with two runs of their own, as Caciari scored on a wild pitch and Ayers on a sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 9–4.
 
The Raiders broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring six runs. Wede walked, and Caciari doubled, setting the stage for Ayers' RBI single. A wild pitch brought in another run, and Ranier Castillo's two-RBI single, followed by Dirkx's two-RBI double, capped the inning, bringing the score to 15–4.
 
The Warriors scored two runs in the seventh inning with a two-run home run by Kamalski and added two more in the ninth with another homer from Kamalski. However, the Raiders' lead was too large to overcome, making the final 15-8.

Up Next: The Raiders will host the Warriors again tomorrow for Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
