Raiders Split Senior Day Series

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Northwestern hosted Doane in their second double-header of the week on Senior Day, honoring four-year contributor Cassidy Gors. The Raiders would rally in win the first game 7-4, but struggled offensively in the second matchup, falling 5-1.

How It Happened:
The game opened with Doane scoring first, scoring on an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead. In the third, the Tigers extended their lead when scoring on an error, making it 2–0. Northwestern responded in the fourth as Sydney Jacobs doubled, driving in Faith Kacmarynski, closing the gap to 2–1.

The fifth inning saw the Raiders take control. After a double by Tatum Schmalbeck, Cassidy Gors doubled, bringing in Kavri Van Kekerix, and Aly Vortherms scored on an error. Faith Kacmarynski reached on an error, allowing Gors to score, resulting in a 4–3 lead for the Red Raiders. The Raiders further extended their lead in the sixth inning as Tatum Schmalbeck reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an error, alongside Sydney Jacobs and Allison Koontz, bringing the score to 7–3. In the seventh, the Tigers attempted a comeback tripling and scoring on a groundout, but the Raiders' lead held firm to take the win 7-4.

Game Notes
  • Sydney Jacobs went three for three at the plate, leading the team in hits.
  • Cassidy Gors' lone hit and subsequent error helped tie the contest in the fifth.
  • Four separate Raiders stole a base during the game.

How It Happened:
In the first inning, both teams traded runs as Doane scored on an RBI groundout and the Raiders responded when Allison Koontz scored on an error. The game remained locked in a 1–1 tie until the fifth inning. The Tigers took a lead with an RBI single to lead 2–1.

In the sixth inning, Doane extended its lead with a two-run homer to center field, bringing the score to 4–1.The final inning saw Doane add one more run on an RBI single. The Raiders were unable to respond in their half of the inning, resulting in a final score of Doane 5, Northwestern 1.

Game Notes
  • Just three hits for Northwestern- Tatum Schmalbeck, Sydney Jacobs, and Allison Koontz.
  • Koontz scored the lone run in the contest and added a stolen base.
  • Only three strikeouts for the Northwestern batters.
  • Another two errors in the field for the Raiders.
