Raiders Fall in Mid-Week Matchup

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern (Iowa) (25-18, 13-11) fell to Dakota State (SD) (17-26-1, 8-12-1) with a final score of 6-3 on Tuesday. The Red Raiders managed five hits, including a home run, but could not overcome the Trojans' ten-hit performance.

Dakota State opened the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run after Connor Raney reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Camaron Haller. The inning concluded with the Trojans leading 1-0.

Northwestern responded in the second inning as Nikolai Wede was hit by a pitch and stole second. Brody Ayers drove him in with a single to left field, tying the game at 1-1.

In the third inning, DSU regained the lead with three runs. Cameron DeMaria and George Hogan each singled and doubled, respectively, setting the stage for Aiden Barfuss's two-RBI double. Ryland Carroll added another run with a groundout. Kevin Rubio countered with a solo home run for the Raiders, but the Trojans led 4-2 after the third inning.

Dakota State extended its lead in the fifth inning. Aiden Marsh walked and scored on Jaxon Dehaan's sacrifice fly. Connor Raney singled to bring in Ryland Carroll, making it 6-2 in favor of the Trojans.

Northwestern added a run in the seventh inning. Calab Caciari singled and advanced on an error, later scoring on a groundout by Jack Craig. The score stood at 6-3 after seven innings.

Northwestern couldn't break through after some stellar pitching from Zain Stark, Micah DeHaan and Peyton Montecinos and the game concluded with a final score of 6-3 in favor of Dakota State.
