Raiders Split with DWU in Nebraska

PAPILLION, Neb. – Northwestern finished the weekend with a split, taking a game from Dakota Wesleyan today to go 2-2 on the weekend.

How It Happened
Northwestern fell to Dakota Wesleyan in a tightly contested game with a final score of 7-6 on Saturday. The Red Raiders hit four home runs, yet a four-run sixth inning by the Tigers proved to be the turning point.

Northwestern took an early lead in the first inning when Nikolai Wede homered, putting the Raiders ahead 1-0. DWU was held scoreless in its half, leaving Northwestern with a 1-0 advantage after the first.

In the third inning, the Tigers scored their first run after Landon Ruesink was hit by pitch and eventually scored on Mason Riley's groundout. The Raiders responded with a strong bottom half as Devin Dirkx hit a three-run homer, scoring Ranier Castillo and Wede, extending the lead to 4-1 through three frames.

Isaac Short added to Northwestern's lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run, increasing the score to 5-1. Dakota Wesleyan failed to score in their half, maintaining Northwestern's advantage.

The Tigers narrowed the gap in the fifth inning. Lane Darrow scored on Mason Riley's double, followed by Caleb Meyers scoring on Dexter Payne's sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of the Raiders at the end of the fifth.

The top of the sixth saw Dakota Wesleyan take the lead with a four-run surge. Caleb Meyers hit a grand slam, driving in Talan Ball, Carter Brown, and Landon Ruesink, shifting the score to 7-5 in favor of the Tigers.

Northwestern managed to reduce the deficit in the seventh inning when Grant Rychnovsky hit a solo home run, bringing the score to 7-6. Despite the effort, DWU closed the game without further scoring, securing a 7-6 victory over the Red Raiders.

How It Happened
Northwestern secured a decisive 10–4 victory over Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, fueled by a seven-run third inning. Nikolai Wede added to the offensive prowess with a home run, contributing to the team's nine hits and eight RBIs.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning with Mason Riley crossing the plate on a double by Kelbee Woodham, putting them ahead 1–0.

In the third inning, DWU extended its lead with a solo home run by Mason Riley, making it 2–0. The Raiders responded emphatically in their half. Kevin Rubio singled and was replaced by pinch runner TJ Silliman, who scored on Nikolai Wede's two-run homer. Additional scoring came from Jack Craig, Grant Rychnovsky, and Bryce Click, who contributed to a seven-run inning as Northwestern took a commanding 7–2 lead after three innings.

The Tigers added two runs in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double by Mason Riley, reducing the deficit to 7–4. The Raiders capitalized on a wild pitch in the bottom half, allowing Bryce Click to score and extend the lead to 8–4 after five innings.

In the sixth inning, the Red Raiders increased their lead further. Ranier Castillo and Dirkx walked, and both eventually scored, with Grant Rychnovsky earning an RBI walk. Northwestern led 10–4 after six innings, a score that would hold through the final frames.
