Double-Digit Scoring Highlights Friday Night

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Another Friday double-header for the Raiders as they score a season-high 11 runs in a win over Bismarck State, but fall 9-2 to Dakota State in the final game of the evening.

Game 1: NWC 11, BSC 2
Win: Allison Koontz (4-1)
Loss: K. Sliman (0-2)

How It Happened: 
In the second inning, Faith Kacmarynski walked and eventually scored on an error, followed by Paige Kingery delivering an RBI single. Rylee Bomgaars contributed with a bunt single that brought in another run, putting the Red Raiders ahead 3-1.

In the fifth inning, the Raiders extended their lead as Ava Gross doubled to drive in Tatum Schmalbeck, who reached base on an error. Kavri Van Kekerix followed with a single that allowed Gross to score, making it 5-2 in favor of Northwestern.

The Raiders sealed their victory with a five-run surge in the seventh inning. After Schmalbeck scored on an error, Kingery hit a two-RBI double to right center. Berkley Johannsen singled and advanced on an error, bringing home another run. Bomgaars capped off the scoring with an RBI single. Northwestern kept the Mystics scoreless in five of the seven innings to win 11-2. 

Game Notes:
  • 11 runs is the most scored by the Raiders since May 1, 2025. (11-2 win over Doane)
  • Berkley Johannsen was two for two, with two runs and an RBI.
  • Rylee Bomgaars led the team with two stolen bases, while hitting .750 with two RBIs.
  • Defense held strong, allowing only one earned run on seven hits.
  • Paige Kingery dominated at the plate with two hits, two runs, and three RBIs.

How It Happened:
Dickinson State scored two runs in the first inning, with a two-run homer. Northwestern responded with a single by Myla Murphy but did not score.

In the second inning, Dickinson State expanded its lead with six runs, aided by errors and a three-RBI double. Northwestern's offense was unable to respond in the bottom half, leaving three runners on base. The Blue Hawks led the Raiders 8-0 headed into the third inning.

Rylee Bomgaars walked and later scored on an error, for Northwestern's first run of the evening. The fifth inning saw the Raiders add another run as Bomgaars reached base and was driven in by a single from Allison Koontz. 

In the sixth inning, Dickinson State added an additional run, extending their lead. The Raiders were unable to produce any further offense in the final innings as they fell, 9-2.

Game Notes:
  • Paige Kingery led the team in hits with two.
  • The Raiders stranded eight runners in the contest.
  • Northwestern struggled defensively with three errors.
  • Dickinson State scored their nine runs on 10 hits and only two strikeouts.
