ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (4-2-1, 0-0-1) and Concordia University, Nebraska (5-0-2, 0-0-1) opened conference play with an absolute barn burner at the NWC Soccer Complex that ended in a 3-3 draw.
The first half between the Red Raiders and the Bulldogs saw an early exchange of shots, with Northwestern's
Aliza Edwards and Concordia's Guadalupe Sanchez both missing the target within the first two minutes. Concordia's Savannah Andrews put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Kierstynn Garner. Northwestern responded quickly, equalizing in the 28th minute when
Lydia Timm scored her first goal of the season off the assist from
Aliza Edwards. Both teams continued to press forward, but neither could break the deadlock and headed into halftime tied 1-1.
The Raiders extended their lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute with a goal from long range by
Olivia Regnerus, her fourth of the season. The Raiders continued to pour the pressure on when in the 67th minute when
Aliza Edwards broke free on the right side and quickly fired a dart into the left side of the net for a highlight-reel finish and her 5th goal of the season. However, the Bulldogs would press on, mounting a comeback in the final eight minutes of the game. Kyana Rios would find the back of the net in the 82nd minute followed by a crucial equalizer from Garner, assisted by Evie Keller, in the 85th minute. Despite several attempts and a tense finish, time would expire with neither side coming out on top in a 3-3 draw.
