Northwestern Posts Second Shutout of Season in Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D. – No. 15 Northwestern returned to South Dakota for another GPAC matchup on Saturday, shutting out the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan, 23-0.

The Tigers' initial drive was short-lived, stalling after three plays and resulting in a 36-yard punt that placed the Red Raiders at their own 43-yard line. The Raiders advanced 28 yards over nine plays, highlighted by Colby Duncan's 11-yard rush, but their drive ended with no points put on the board. A subsequent drive by DWU was marred by a sack from Caden Meyer, forcing a Tiger punt. The Raiders then executed a series of successful rushes, including a 10-yard gain by Gardner Casey, but the quarter concluded with the team at the Tigers' 10-yard line and no score on the board.

The Red Raiders put points on the board to start the second with a 25-yard field goal by Gianna Bennett at 13:05, followed by another successful 30-yard field goal by Bennett at 07:11, making it 6-0. The Tigers struggled to maintain momentum, with Jaxson Hildebrand coming through for a sack on in negative territory. Near the end of the quarter, the Raiders capitalized on a fumble recovery by Lane Kenny, leading to a 36-yard pass from Duncan to Sam Remmerde, setting up a one-yard touchdown run by Casey in the final minute. Bennett's extra point was good, solidifying a 13-0 lead for the Raiders at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Trystin Voss continued to keep Dakota Wesleyan's offense searching for answers, coming up with a third-down sack that set up a Northwestern scoring drive. The Raiders capitalized on their next possession with Duncan's 63-yard rush, setting up his five-yard touchdown pass to Carson Ness at 6:09. Later, Zach Vander Griend added an interception for the Raiders, leading to a 33-yard field goal by Bennett at 3:53, solidifying a 10-point quarter and a 23-0 victory.
