A Game of Firsts Leads to Big Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Bethel College (KS) at the NWC Soccer Complex, with three goals scored in the first half.

The Red Raiders took an early lead with a goal by Drew Darnold in the 5th minute off of a deflection. The Threshers responded with several attempts, including a saved penalty kick the 33rd minute, by Edoardo Alessandrini. The Raiders extended their lead with goals from Emerson Brazones in the 38th minute and Juan Miranda in the 45th minute, both their first goals of the season and young Raider career. The half ended with the Raiders holding a 3-0 advantage, while the back line stayed strong to maintain the shutout.

In the second half, the Raiders dominated offensively, with multiple attempts on goal including a shot by Piet Hennings that went high and a shot by Charles Saydee saved by Bethel's goalkeeper Samuel Hernandez. Despite a strong defensive effort from Hernandez, who saved numerous shots, the Threshers faced disciplinary issues with Aden Braggs receiving a red card in the 67th minute after consecutive yellow cards. The Raiders' persistent attack was rewarded in the 88th minute when Bauti Marques scored, assisted by Travis Sweeney, making it his first goal of the season, Raider career and sealing the home team's 4-0 victory.
