Raiders Split with Waldorf in First GPAC Matchup

Forest City, IA - Northwestern headed to Forest City for the first faceoff against Waldorf as GPAC opponents. It would be an even matchup as the teams split the first two games of the series with Waldorf taking game one, 6-5, and Northwestern winning game two, 7-4.

Northwestern started strong in the first inning with Devin Dirkx hitting a solo home run to give the team an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, the Red Raiders capitalized on an RBI single by Brody Ayers to right field, extending the lead to 2-0. The Warriors responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, making it a 2-1 game. Grant Rychnovsky hit a solo home run to center field in the third, furthering the Raider lead to 3-1. The fourth inning remained scoreless for both teams, while Waldorf took the lead in the fifth inning with five runs on five hits, making the score 6-3. Northwestern showed resilience in the seventh inning when Grant Guidry hit a two-run home run, closing the gap to 6-5. Despite the effort, the game concluded in the Warriors' favor with the 6-5 final score.

  • Drew Dykstra is credited with his first loss of the season on the mound
  • Grant Rychnovsky had two hits in three at bats, a home run and a double
  • Despite the loss, Northwestern out-hit Waldorf 8 to 7

The Raiders' offense began the game with an RBI single from Jack Craig, however, the Warriors responded with a robust bottom half, scoring four runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead into the second inning. In the third inning, the Northwestern hitters came alive as Devin Dirkx and Grant Guidry each hit solo home runs, cutting the deficit to 4-3. The sixth inning proved decisive for the Raiders, as they capitalized on their opportunities, scoring four runs on two hits. The inning was highlighted by Guidry's two-RBI single, which helped the Raiders take a commanding 7-4 lead. Northwestern's pitching and defense held strong for the remainder of the game, allowing no runs over the final innings.

  • Grant Guidry had a perfect day at the plate with 4 hits and 3 RBIs
