Raiders Drop Two to Tigers

Orange City, IA - Northwestern hosted Doane on Saturday for the first two games of their series where the Tigers would showcase a powerful offense with two victories over the Raiders, 10-2 and 13-4.

Game 1: NWC 2 - Doane 10

The Tigers took an early lead in the first inning with a three-run homer before adding another run in the third. Doane increased their advantage in the fourth inning, scoring four runs before the Raiders made a push in the fifth inning with Dalton Garbers hitting a two-run homer, reducing the Tigers' lead to 8-2. In the seventh, Doane added two more runs and Northwestern was unable to score further, concluding the game with a 10-2 loss to the Tigers.

In the first inning, the Tigers took an early lead with a two-run homer, setting the score at 2-0. Doane extended their lead in the fourth inning with another two-run homer, increasing the lead to 4-0. The Tigers scored six more runs in the sixth thanks to a grand slam and their third two-run shot of the contest. Northwestern responded in the bottom half with Grant Rychnovsky's three-run homer, making the score 10-3 after six. The Raiders would add one more run in the eighth but would stall out with a 13-4 defeat.

  • Northwestern broke up Doane's perfect game with a walk and a single in the bottom of the sixth
  • Peyton Montecinos struck out six in his two innings of work and allowed just one hit
  • The Raider pitching staff struck out 14 batters and allowed 12 hits
