Kalvelage Notches First-Career NAIA Weekly Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwestern men's track and field student-athlete Braden Kalvelage has been named the NAIA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced today. It marks the first time in nine years that a Northwestern track and field athlete has received NAIA weekly honors.

"Braden was dialed in at the Husker Invitational," head coach Scott Bahrke commented. "It was fun to watch him jump into the lead on his first attempt in finals and then hit an indoor personal best on his final jump. He used the banked track efficiently to break his own 200m record as well."

The junior from Hastings had a standout weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, winning the long jump and setting a school record in the oversized 200m dash. Kalvelage posted an NAIA-best mark of 7.49 in the long jump, defeating three NCAA DI athletes along the way. In the 200m, he hit the provisional mark with a 21.67, setting the school record on an oversized track.

He becomes the first Raider men's track and field athlete to receive an NAIA weekly award since Kyle Anderson on February 17, 2016.

Kalvelage and the Raiders will compete at the GPAC Indoor Championships this weekend in Mitchell, South Dakota.
