Northwestern Drops Home Contest in Challenging Conditions

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern scored a goal in the late stages of the second half, but it was not enough as Morningside left campus with a 2-1 victory.

The Mustangs took an early lead in the 15th minute when Tuva Hammarlund converted a penalty kick, marking her fifth goal of the season. Keyera Harmon extended the Mustangs' advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 28th minute, her seventh of the season. Northwestern's Lucy Staines and Camryn Wilkinson each had shots saved by Morningside's goalkeeper, Moriah Dixson, as the home team struggled to find the back of the net, as the first half concluded with Morningside leading 2-0.

The Raiders narrowed the deficit with a goal by Aliza Edwards in the 74th minute, assisted by Staines, marking Edwards' ninth goal of the season. The Mustangs had multiple attempts to extend their lead, with Hammarlund taking a notable shot saved by Bailey Bynum in the 47th minute. Despite sustained pressure and numerous blocked shots from the Mustangs, Northwestern's defense held firm. However, Morningside kept the Raiders off the scoreboard in their defensive end as well, leading to a 2-1 decision.
