Offensive Outburst Guides Raiders to Commanding Win

Wroblewski drives in six runs

SANFORD, Fla. – Luke Wroblewski tore up the opposing pitching staff with a grand slam and six RBIs as the Northwestern baseball team downed Indiana South Bend 16-5 in the RussMatt Invitational.

How It Happened
A 4-0 start turned into a rout as Northwestern ended a nine-inning contest an inning early, defeating the Titans of Indiana South Bend 16-5 in eight frames.

Wroblewski started his day with a first-inning RBI double when Drew Dykstra walked and ended up on second ahead of Wroblewski's at-bat. After the Raiders put up one more on a Devin Dirkx base hit, Ranier Castillo singled to send home Dirkx and Mason Porepp.

IUSB made it interesting in the fifth, scoring four in the inning to come within a run. However, with the order turning over for the Raiders in the sixth, Northwestern put insurance runs on the board. Dykstra had a one-out single, with Wroblewski bringing him home on an RBI triple. Sam Stanford returned the favor, bringing the freshman in from third to give Northwestern a 7-4 lead.

Stanford had an effective day as well, tripling in his next appearance for his third hit of the day and two runs added.

With the game already in hand at 12-5, Wroblewski put the hammer down with a grand slam, his third hit of the game and ninth run accounted for as a batter and baserunner.

Game Notes: Up Next: Northwestern will close out their RussMatt games tomorrow, matching up with Valley City State (N.D.) for a doubleheader.
