Raiders Fall in NAIA Quarterfinals

DES MOINES, Iowa – A matchup that pinned two of the best defenses in the NAIA saw No. 2 Grand View take down No. 10 Northwestern 17-0 in the NAIA Quarterfinals.

The Vikings took the opening drive for nine plays and 75 yards to go up by a touchdown early, forcing the Raiders to battle from behind. Northwestern responded on the next drive by using a Colby Duncan 15-yard rush to get into the red zone and set themselves up for a score. However, knowing opportunities would be limited in the defensive showdown, the Raiders gambled on 4th and 1, and Grand View stifled the drive inside the 10.

After a 40-yard field goal extended the host squad's lead, Northwestern found itself backed up in their own territory for the remainder of the half, as the Vikings once again added a touchdown to make it 17-0 at the break.

Northwestern found itself in Viking territory twice in the fourth, but Grand View responded with a pair of fourth-down stops late to advance to the NAIA Semifinals next week.
