Raiders Bounce Back on the Road

Yankton, SD - The Raiders would snap their four game losing skid in GPAC play on the road against Mount Marty with a 3-0 victory over the Lancers led by a hat trick from senior Avril Baccam.

Flashback to Wednesday's competition when Northwestern saw the Chargers of Briar Cliff score their first goal of the match within 15 seconds of the start of the match. Avril Baccam seemed to take notes and tested the limit as she would put the Raiders up 1-0 over Mount Marty in just NINE seconds. The defense stood tall as the Lancers tried to answer back in the first half but would only be able to put two shots on goal before halftime. Speaking of things that happened twice in the first half, in the 20th minute Avril Baccam would knock her second goal into the net for the 2-0 lead. While Baccam was the only Raider to put points on the board, the rest of the offense was taking shots as well as three other Raiders registered shots including Kylie Baccam with three of her own, two of which had to be saved by the goalie.

The second half started with the Baccam sisters trading shots back and forth before Avril showed off the older sibling superiority in the 63rd minute to complete her hat trick and score the third goal of the contest. It would be all defense in the middle of the pitch from then on out as neither team getting many opportunities for shots the rest of match. Goalie Peyton Anderson had a much more relaxing day than she's been used to in the past only needing to register two saves over the full 90 minutes. Raiders get themselves back to a .500 record in GPAC play at four and four.

Game Notes:
  • Seven separate Raiders had at least one shot on goal
  • Avril and Kylie Baccam led the team with five shots on goal apiece, Grace Timm was second with two
  • Avril Baccam's hat trick is the first for Northwestern since Nikky Farnsworth in 2019 against Dakota Wesleyan
  • The Raiders have a 23-0 record against Mount Marty starting in 2002
Up Next: Northwestern rides over to Sioux City to take on the 3-3-4 Mustangs of Morningside on Wednesday, October 16th at 5:00 PM.
