Northwestern Tallies Home Shutout Win Over Faith Baptist

Riley Aarbo nets career-high two goals in shutout

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Four first half goals was the difference as the Northwestern College men's soccer team (4-1, 0-0 GPAC) picked up their third-straight victory Tuesday evening a the NWC Soccer Complex with a 4-0 win over Faith Baptist Bible College (0-1-1).
 
Four first half goals proved to be all the Red Raiders would need on a beautiful evening at the NWC Soccer Complex. The Red Raiders controlled the match from the first minute, putting up 23 shots (17 on-goal) while not allowing Faith Baptist to put up a shot in the first 45 minutes of play. Northwestern also had eight corners in the first half.
 
Riley Aarbo (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) would net the first two goals of the contest, putting the Red Raiders on the board in the eighth minute with his second goal of the season. Seven minutes later, in the 15th minute, he would find the back of the net for a second time, winning a battle in the box to give Northwestern the 2-0 lead.

   
As the first half continued on, Alejandro Ruiz Garcia (Jr., Valencia, Spain) would join the scoring party in the 30th minute with his second goal of the year, as Stan van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands) notches his first assist of 2023. Barely five minutes later, the relentless Red Raider attack would net their fourth goal of the season as Tim Kaltenberger (Jr., Cologne, Germany) nets his third goal of the year and Luc Roelofs (Jr., Balgoji, Netherlands) adds to his team-leading assist mark with his fifth assist.
 
The second half saw some guys get some varsity action with the match well in hand to begin the half, including goalkeeper Rick Lammerts (Fr., Gemert, Netherlands) who recorded his first collegiate save.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Luc Roelofs dished out his GPAC-leading fifth assist.
  • The two goals from Riley Aarbo marked a career-high.
  • 27 Raiders made an appearance in Tuesday's match.
Up Next: Northwestern will play one more non-conference match before taking the pitch for Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play on Saturday, September 9 when they battle the Bruins of Bellevue University (Neb.) in Nebraska.
