Red Raiders Back in the Win Column with a Shutout Road Win

Brennan and Speck both find back of the net for the first time this season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (4-6, 2-3 GPAC) got back into the win column this evening with their first road win of the season with a 2-0 decision over the Mount Marty Lancers (1-7, 0-5 GPAC) at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Northwestern would find a way to strike first in Yankton. Following a Lancer goal kick that wandered out of bounds, the Red Raiders would get a beautiful cross from Aliza Edwards (Fr., Spencer, Iowa) on the far side who would deliver a ball perfectly to the backside of the box where Taylor Brennan (So., The Woodlands, Texas) would put it away for the 1-0 lead in eighth minute of play.

At the half, Northwestern had put up four shots which were all on-goal. The Lancers managed just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

The Red Raiders kept the pressure on in the second half with multiple opportunities to extend the lead. Finally, in the 62nd minute, off a counterattack opportunity, Grace Timm (Fr., Center City, Minn.) pushing down the line had a perfect find with a cross into the middle of the box as Keirsten Speck (Sr., Elkhorn, Neb.) would find the back of the net to push the Northwestern lead up to 2-0.

Mount Marty would put some pressure on the Raider defense in the remaining minutes, but Northwestern would hold firm. When the final whistle came, Northwestern would leave Yankton with a 2-0 victory for their first road win of the season.
