No. 1 Northwestern Heads Back to Nebraska to Battle Midland

Red Raiders look to improve to 2-0 in the state of Nebraska this season and 3-0 against Nebraska schools

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (4-0, 3-0 GPAC) returns to the state of the Nebraska this weekend to battle the Midland Warriors (3-2, 2-2 GPAC).   • NWC heads back to the state of Nebraska for the second time this season.
  • NWC has started the season 4-0 for the 23rd time in program history.
  • Jalyn Gramstad (Jr., QB) was tabbed the GPAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
  • The Red Raiders have taken a weekly honor from the league office in each of the first four weeks of the season.
  • Northwestern has tied the longest win streak in program history at 17-straight games (1981-82).

GPAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • For the second time this season, Jalyn Gramstad has been voted GPAC Offensive Player of the Week.
  • He threw for a career-high 397 yards in the win at Mount Marty, throwing for 300+ for the first time in his career.
  • He had a hand in five of the Red Raiders' six touchdown on the night, four passing and one rushing.
FAST STARTS
  • Northwestern has gotten off to fast starts in 2023, outscoring opponents 41-7 in the first quarter this season.
  • Only Concordia (Neb.) has scored on the Red Raider defense in the first quarter (Week 1).
  • It's been three-straight weeks (Drake, Doane, Mount Marty) that the Red Raider defense has held the opponent scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play.
NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK
  • True freshman Blake Thompson up until two weeks ago was playing wide receiver for the Red Raiders.
  • He switched to defensive back two weeks ago.
  • Last week at MMU, he made his first-career appearance on the depth chart, sitting as the back-up to Lorenzen.
  • He showed out big against the Lancers with his first-career interception, returning 86 yards.
NAIA COACHES' POLL
  • In the second regular season poll, three GPAC teams continue to be ranked in the top-25: Northwestern (No. 1), Morningside (No. 3), and Dordt (No. 14).
  • The preseason poll marks the 28th-straight week NWC has been ranked inside the top-5, dating back to May 17, 2021.
  • It's now 68-straight week the Red Raiders have been ranked inside the top-25.
  • For the third-straight poll, NWC has received all 18 first-place votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.
WEATHER FORECAST
  • Saturday calls for a high in the low 90s, topping out at around 91 degrees.
  • Wind gusts could be as strong as 18mph during the day, sitting between 15 to 25mph from the south.
