Northwestern Falls to Morningside in Home Clash

Aliza Edwards nets third goal of the season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (3-5, 1-2 GPAC) dropped their first home match of the season with a 7-1 loss to the Morningside Mustangs (5-1-2, 2-0-1 GPAC) Wednesday evening at the NWC Soccer Complex. Freshman Aliza Edwards nets her third goal of the season.

Morningside was on the offensive all night long at the NWC Soccer Complex, putting up 32 shots on goal with 18 being on goal.

The Red Raiders held on for the first 25 minutes of play against one of the most high-powered offenses in the league, but in the 26th minute the Mustangs found the back of the net for the first time as Keyera Harmon scored. Nine minutes later, Harmon would find the back of the net for the second time in the match, and sixth on the season, to double the Mustangs lead. Morningside would take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Shortly into the second half, the two teams would trade goals – the only two goals of the match with an accredited assist – as Morningside would lead 4-1. In the 56th minute, Edwards (Fr., Spencer, Iowa) would find the back of the net for the third time this season, as Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) picked up her team-leading second assist of the season.

Morningside would find the back of the net three more times before the final whistle, taking the match 7-1 over Northwestern.
