GPAC Play Opens With Road Loss

Northwestern returns home against Briar Cliff on Saturday

OMAHA, Neb.  – Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) soccer commenced on Wednesday afternoon as Northwestern (2-4-0, 0-1-0 GPAC) traveled back to Nebraska for a matchup against College of Saint Mary (3-0-2, 1-0-0 GPAC). Northwestern was shut out, falling 2-0 in the conference opener.

The first half saw the Flames score twice, hitting their first goal on a shot by Abbie Anderson 11 minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. Then, in the 39th minute, Kylie Anderson knocked in a goal to give the home squad a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Northwestern contributed a positive offensive effort early in the second half, attempting four shots, three on goal, in the opening 15 minutes, though opposing goalkeeper Alivia Schade stopped the Red Raider attack.

The Raiders had two corner kick opportunities in the waning minutes, but College of Saint Mary posted the shutout to open GPAC play.

MATCH NOTES
  • Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) attempted three shots, while Aliza Edwards (Fr., Spencer, Iowa) and Keirsten Speck (Sr., Elkhorn, Neb.) each took two attempts.
  • Abby Bastian (Sr., Brandon, S.D.) collected 10 saves.
  • College of Saint Mary has won the last four meetings against the Raiders.
  • Northwestern returns to their home pitch on Saturday, where they are 2-0 this season.
