How It Happened
Southeastern's Danny Batcher threw a complete-game shutout in a 10-0 win for the Fire over the Red Raiders on Thursday night, as Northwestern fell to 3-10 on the season.

Northwestern recorded the first hit of the ballgame as Kip Cullinan (Sr., Urbandale, Iowa) sent a single to left-center with two down, but Southeastern got the next man swinging to end the inning with a runner aboard.

The Fire got on the board right away in their half of the first, as an RBI double turned into a two-run play on a throwing error, extending the lead to 2-0. They went on to score three more runs in the next two innings as a home run led off the third, followed by an error on a steal of third that led to another score.

Cullinan tried to get the Raider offense kickstarted again in the fourth with one away, as he notched his second two-hit game of the season. However, the following two Raider batters were struck out to end the inning.

After adding one more on a home run in the bottom of the fifth, Southeastern continued to keep Northwestern at bay until the seventh, when the Raiders got two baserunners aboard. Following back-to-back walks for Mo Watson (Jr., Ankeny, Iowa) and Noa Vogel (Sr., Castle Pines, Colo.), the Raiders had two runners in scoring position with two outs. The Fire's Danny Batcher was able to strike out the final batter before his team added four runs in the seventh, moving Southeastern's record to a perfect 24-0.

Game Notes
  • Kip Cullinan went 2-3 at the plate, the only Raider with a multi-hit game.
  • Cullinan now boasts a four-game hitting streak.
  • Mason Porepp (Jr., Pleasant Hill, Iowa) also recorded a hit, going 1-3.
  • The Fire picked up 13 strikeouts in the shutout victory.

  • Jakeb Swallow (Fr., Macon, Ioaw), Zach Kinney (So., Johnston, Iowa), and Brad Tornow (Jr., Kalona, Iowa) each threw two strikeouts apiece.
