How It Happened
The Raiders were in control from the beginning as they showcased their depth in pitching, hitting, and defense.

Northwestern got on the board first in the bottom of the first, as Kameryn Etherington (Jr., Algona, Iowa) doubled with the bases loaded and one out to score two runs, putting the Raiders up 2-0. It was the 14th time this season that Northwestern has scored in the first inning.

After shutting down the Jimmies in the second and third innings, the Raiders put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the third. Emily Strasser (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a leadoff double, while Chloe Gallegos (So., Carroll, Iowa) singled and advanced to second before Etherington loaded the bases with a walk. In the next at-bat, Maddie Kvatek (Jr., Stevens Point, Wis.) recorded the RBI with a sac fly to right to put her team up 3-0. The Raiders added another run before the end of the inning when Ellie Jacobson (Jr., Humboldt, Iowa) put down a bunt to extend the lead to four.

Gwen Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) drove in her team-leading 32nd RBI in the sixth, a single that scored Cassidy Gors (Fr., Tea, S.D.).

Game Notes
  • Kameryn Etherington pitched a complete game shutout, her seventh complete game of the season.
  • She also had a two-RBI double and drew two walks at the plate.
  • Gwen Mikkelsen recorded an RBI on a 2-3 day.
  • Chloe Gallegos moved her hitting streak to seven games after game one.

How It Happened
A seventh-inning rally capped off by a pinch-hit, walk-off single by Leah Schaefer (Fr., Marshall, Minn.) helped the Raiders keep their winning streak alive, moving to nine wins in a row.

The Northwestern offense scored right away in the first, as a Gwen Mikkelsen double led off the inning, and she later came around to score on a groundout.

In what was a defensive battle through the early innings, Jamestown started the top of the fourth with a leadoff triple and a single in consecutive at-bats, tying the game at 1-1. Later in the inning, with one out, the Jimmies took their first lead of the day on an RBI single, going up 2-1.

Hits were scattered for both teams for the majority of the contest as it was a great pitching dual between Kate Kralik (So., Indianola, Iowa) and Jamestown's Abby Blair.

With one offensive opportunity to go, Northwestern needed at least one run to extend the game. Ashtyn Billings (Fr., Ankeny, Iowa) hustled out an infield single with one out to get the rally started. Following a strikeout for the second out, Mikkelsen passed the baton, pushing a single to right-center and advancing into scoring position.

With one final chance at the plate, head coach Shane Bouman turned to freshman utility player Leah Schaefer. Facing a 2-2 count, Schaefer ripped the ball into center field, with Billings coming home from third and Mikkelsen beating the throw to the plate to score the winning run.

Game Notes
  • Leah Schaefer hit a two-RBI single in what would be the game-winning hit for the Raiders.
  • Gwen Mikkelsen extended her hitting streak to eight games, going 3-4 and scoring the game-winning run.
  • Kate Kralik was effective in relief, striking out three and not allowing any runs over 3.2 innings.
  • Ashtyn Billings had two hits on the day.

"Going into today's games, everyone knew they were going to be important ones to win, but all we needed to do is be the team that we are," said freshman utility player Leah Schaefer. "Coach talks about being a leader when you have the bat in your hand and the ball in your glove. Everyone stepped up when it was their turn today and that is what got us the wins we needed."

Up Next: Northwestern is scheduled to play the Dordt Defenders on Tuesday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m.
