Northwestern Wraps Up Regular Season on Veterans Day Weekend

GPAC Champions will play at home for final time in the regular season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (10-0, 9-0 GPAC) welcomes the Jamestown Jimmies (2-8, 2-7 GPAC) to Orange City and De Valois Stadium for the final regular season game of the year on Armistice/Veterans Day. NWC NOTABLES
  • Northwestern closes out the 2023 regular season against the Jamestown Jimmies on Veterans Day.
  • The Red Raiders win streak is up to 23-straight games.
  • Northwestern is one of four unbeaten NAIA schools heading into Week 10 of the season.
  • NWC leads the GPAC in total touchdowns (55), which sits FOURTH in the NAIA.
  • Northwestern sits 19-7 in the month of November under head coach Matt McCarty.
  • The Red Raiders have taken a weekly honor from the league office in eight of the 10 weeks of the season.
  • NWC is 20-0 with Jalyn Gramstad as the starting quarterback.
  • NWC leads the GPAC in total yards per game (463.5), passing yards per completion (9.8), and rushing yards per carry (5.8) being the most explosive offense in the GPAC.
  • The Raiders scored 55 touchdowns this season: 31 rushing, 23 passing, and one defensive (pick-six).
  • Northwestern holds the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA for the 10th-straight poll, receiving all 18 of the first-place votes for the ninth-straight poll.
  • Konner McQuillan continues to lead the conference in rushing touchdowns (17) and is second in the conference in rushing yards per game (98.9).
  • He tallied his 13th-career 100-yard rushing game last week against DWU (127 yards).
  • Michael Storey now sits solely atop the GPAC in receiving touchdowns (11).
  • There's a two-way tie for the team lead in sacks (5.0) in Jessen Reinking and Adam Gubbels.
  • Since 2020 when the deep playoff runs began for Northwestern, NWC is one of eight NAIA programs to make the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) (see p. 5 of notes for full list of teams).
2023 GPAC CHAMPIONS!
  • For the first time since the 1996 season, back when the conference was the NIAC, the Northwestern College football team are the outright conference champions!
  • It marks the first outright GPAC title in program history – tied for the title in 2000 and 2014.
  • It's the first GPAC title for head coach Matt McCarty, to go along with his 2022 NAIA National Championship.
  • The Red Raiders will be presented their championship trophy and banner following the game on Saturday.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • For the third time this season, senior kicker Eli Stader has been named the GPAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • He went a perfect 7-for-7 on PAT attempts in the 49-28 win at Dakota Wesleyan, as the Red Raiders tied their season-high with seven touchdowns scored in the victory.
  • He joins teammate Jalyn Gramstad as the only Red Raider to win a weekly award three times this season.
FAST STARTS
  • Northwestern has gotten off to fast starts this season, outscoring opponents 82-17 in the first quarter this season.
  • Only Concordia (Neb.), Midland, and Morningside have scored on the Red Raider defense in the first quarter.
  • NWC has held six opponents (Drake, Doane, Mount Marty, Hastings, Briar Cliff, Dordt, Dakota Wesleyan) scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play.
RECORD BOOK WATCH
  • With the win against Dakota Wesleyan, quarterback Jalyn Gramstad
    • Stays 10th all-time in career passing yards (5,185).
    • He's just the 10th Red Raider quarterback to notch 5,000 career passing yards.
    • Continues to sit ninth all-time in passing TDs (48).
    • Remains tied for 10th all-time in career rushing TDs (30).
  • Konner McQuillan has moved into fifth all-time in program history in career rushing yards (3,270).
  • Michael Storey passed C. Moser for second all-time in career receiving yards (4,114).
  • He remains on the hunt for chasing down Moser and S. Solberg for career TD receptions (47 & 49, respectively), sitting with 40.
  • He's just the third Red Raider to have 40 or more receiving touchdowns in their career.
  • He needs 12 receptions to become the program's all-time leader in career receptions.
CODY MOSER – THE BALL HAWK
  • Converted cornerback turned safety, Cody Moser has made the transition this season look effortless this season.
  • His eight interceptions now sits atop the NAIA all to himself.
  • His two interceptions against Hastings was his first-career multi-interception game.
  • He recorded his second multi-interception game (2) against Dakota Wesleyan last week (Nov. 4).
  • He had a streak of four-straight games with a pick this season.
  • In his Red Raider career, he's recorded 10 interceptions.
NAIA COACHES' POLL
  • In the ninth regular season poll, three GPAC teams continue to be ranked in the top-25: Northwestern (No. 1), Morningside (No. 12), and Dordt (No. 17).
  • Poll 9 marks the 34th-straight week NWC has been ranked inside the top-5, dating back to May 17, 2021.
  • The new program record mark for most consecutive polls ranked inside the top-25 continues to climb, now at 74-straight polls.
  • For the eighth-straight poll, NWC has received all 18 first-place votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.
WEATHER FORECAST
  • The forecast in Orange City calls for interclass of clouds and sunshine throughout the afternoon with the high being in the low 50s.
  • There's a less than a 10% chance of showers in the area (as of Tuesday afternoon).
  • Winds will be 10 to 15mph from the SSE.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series 7-1, with the first meeting coming back in 2000 and NWC winning the last seven-straight.
  • The Red Raiders are 3-1 with games played in Orange City.
