Rematch with Bellevue on Tap for NAIA First Round

Second meeting of season between Red Raiders and Bruins

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's soccer team (15-4-2, 8-1-2 GPAC) qualified for their second National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament in the past three seasons, appearing for the third time in program history. The Raiders will be paired with the (RV) Bellevue (Neb.) Bruins (12-5-3) in the first round, hosted by Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at Dill Soccer Field in Oklahoma City. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16.

REGULAR SEASON MEETING
Northwestern's non-conference schedule concluded at Bellevue on September 9, a match in which the Bruins erased a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Raiders 2-1. Stan van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands) hit the game's opening goal in the 31st minute for his fifth of the year before Bellevue's Fletcher Hodge tied the score seven minutes later. Early in the second half, Ombeni Mubake broke the tie and scored the game-winner for the Bruins.

NORTHWESTERN NOTABLES
  • Northwestern won its second postseason tournament title in school history and their first since 2007 with a 2-1 victory over Morningside last Thursday.
  • van den Beld and Gerrard Uamai (Dundalk, Republic of Ireland) both scored in the win.
  • The Red Raiders are one of two GPAC schools in the tournament (Briar Cliff).
  • Northwestern ended the year with only one GPAC loss, coming in the opener on September 16 against regular season champion Briar Cliff.
  • Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany) finished the year as the GPAC scoring champion with his 14 goals.
  • Kaltenberger is now tied for third in program history in single-season scoring (15).
  • They now have 11 shutouts this season, which is tied for the most in program history (2021).
  • van den Beld is second in program history with his 19 career assists.
  • Riley Aarbo (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) tied for the GPAC lead in assists this season (7), while Luc Roelofs (Sr., Balgoij, Netherlands) tied for second (6).
  • The Raider offense led the conference in goals scored (58).
GPAC AWARDS SCOUTING THE BRUINS
  • The Bruins have not lost since September 26, when they were defeated 1-0 by No. 14-ranked Columbia (Mo.).
  • Fletcher Hodge is Bellevue's leading scorer, compiling seven goals on the season.
  • Fortifying the defense is Taariq Ganga, who holds a 0.82 goals against average with 68 saves this season.
  • Head coach Mark Heath-Preston is in his eighth season leading the program.
RAIDERS IN THE POSTSEASON
  • All time, the Raiders have a postseason record of 16-23.
  • They are searching for their first NAIA tournament win, currently 0-2.
  • Under head coach Dan Swier, Northwestern is 10-14 in postseason play.
TICKET INFORMATION
Admission will be charged at the Dill Soccer Field. There is not an advance ticketing option, all tickets are sold at the gate.

All fans over the age of 12 will need to purchase general admission tickets for $10. Fans ages 12 and under receive free admission.
