Raider Smash Ultimate team also competes in tournament

MANKATO, Minn.  – Northwestern's esports programs competed in the Rockstar Energy Collegiate Esports Invitational last Saturday, with the Rocket League team finishing second out of 18 teams. The event, hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato, also saw the Smash Bros. Ultimate team competing in their first season.

The Raiders started out the day with a Rocket League matchup against Western Technical College (Wis.) where they won 3-0. They kept up their dominant play with another sweep of Fort Lewis College (Colo.) and won in four against Wayne State (Neb.).

Facing their toughest opponent of the day in the University of Minnesota, Northwestern fell 3-0 and had to rematch with Wayne State for a trip to the finals. After the Raiders bounced back for the 3-1 win against a rallying Wildcat squad, Northwestern was once again matched up with Minnesota, falling by one goal in game seven of the best-of-seven series.
