Raiders Get Two Wins at GPAC Duals

Francksen-Small, Parmelee both go 3-0

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – (RV) Northwestern (5-7, 4-4 GPAC) finished the second session of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Duals with a 2-1 record, falling to (RV) Concordia (11-2, 6-2 GPAC) and defeating Hastings (2-11, 0-6 GPAC) and Midland (3-6, 2-6 GPAC).

DUAL #1 VS. CONCORDIA
In the first dual of the day, Concordia picked up a 21-15 win. After dropping the 125 match, Manuel Jaramillo (Sr., Selma, Calif.) got the Raiders on the board with a 3-2 decision. Noah Parmelee (Fr., Sioux City, Iowa) won his 16th match of the year in 149 to make the score 7-6 in favor of Concordia before the Bulldogs took the next two. Jake Francksen-Small (So., Merrill, Iowa) and Lincoln Siebert (So., Burns, Wyo.) were the two other winners in the dual, with Siebert winning by fall.

DUAL #2 VS. HASTINGS
The Raiders got back on track in the second dual, a 39-10 win over Hastings. Johnny Burnette (Fr., Spirit Lake, Iowa) pushed Northwestern ahead 12-4 on a pin in the third period before Parmelee won by decision and Brody Hoversten (Fr., Alden, Iowa) by forfeit. With the Raider lead at 21-7, Francksen-Small gave his team six points with a fall, one of two on the day for him.

DUAL #3 VS. MIDLAND
Sean Heeney (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa) won his seventh match by fall to get his team on the board, while Parmelee defeated the No. 4-ranked wrestler in his weight class in Northwestern's 30-17 win over the Midland Warriors.

Holding an 18-7 lead, Cole Rutter (Fr., Fostoria, Iowa) picked up his second win of the year in an 8-6 decision before Francksen-Small won another match by fall, moving his record to 3-0 on the day. Kaleb Lind (So., Lindenhurst, Ill.) moved the score to 30-11 on a 7-2 decision before Midland won the heavyweight match by fall.

"It was a solid day at the GPAC Duals," commented head coach Rik Dahl. "2-1 wasn't what we were hoping for, but we saw a lot of fight from our young team. I was proud of the way the team responded after a heartbreaking first round loss to Concordia. They showed a lot of heart."
