Raiders Shutout Lancers for First League Win

Alexa Johnson cracks program’s top-10 list for goals scored in a season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (5-5-1, 1-3-1 GPAC) got into the win column in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play with a 5-0 shutout win over the Mount Marty Lancers (1-6-2, 0-5-0 GPAC), tallying their third shutout of the season.  
Northwestern increases their win streak against the Lancers to 21-straight matches, still having never lost to Mount Marty.
 
Northwestern struck early with two early first half goals from Alexa Johnson (Fr., Spencer, Iowa), neither being assisted. In the 23rd minute, senior Julie Dunlap (Des Moines, Iowa) joined into the action with her first goal of the match, extending the Raider lead to 3-0 at the halftime break. It marks Dunlap's sixth goal of the season.
 
Five minutes into the second half (50th minute), Abby Noonan (Jr., Carlisle, Iowa) notched her fifth goal of the campaign. Not even three minutes later, Dunlap would find the back of the net again for her seventh goal of the season and made the score 5-0.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • With her two goals, freshman Alexa Johnson cracked the program's top-10 list for goals in a season with nine, sitting tied-for-ninth.
  • The two goals from senior Julie Dunlap puts her up to 19 in her career, and moves her to sole possession of fifth-place for career goals.
  • Katie Jacob and Abby Noonan both recorded assists, sitting at 2 and 4 assists on the season, respectively.
  • The Raiders put up a whopping 25 shots on the match, to Mount Marty's three.
  • Northwestern recorded six corner kicks, MMU two.
  • Alexa Johnson put up a match-high seven shots, Julie Dunlap put up five.
  • NWC split goalkeeping duties between April Van Tol (first half) and Abby Bastion (second half).
  • Bastion recorded the lone Raider save of the afternoon.

Up Next: Northwestern will hit the road again this Saturday, October 1 for their longest trip of the season up to Jamestown, N.D. to battle (RV) Jamestown. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
