Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision

SALEM, Ore.  – It was a defensive battle in Oregon on Saturday as Northwest (Wash.) (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CCC) used a second-half goal to come away with a 1-0 win over No. 25 Northwestern (0-2-0, 0-0-0 GPAC).

The Raiders had plenty of shot attempts early on as a string of three attempts were sent high, keeping the score knotted at 0-0.

Northwestern recorded their first shot on goal when Tim Kaltenberger's (Cologne, Germany) header was stopped by Eagles keeper Michael Kot. The Raiders found another opportunity late in the half as James Bolger (Boyle, Republic of Ireland) received a penalty kick opportunity that was denied.

Both teams came out of the half with an offensive-minded approach, opening with Niklas Fitter (Sankt Augustin, Germany) having his shot hit the post. Following Fitter's attempt, the
Raiders and Eagles combined for seven attempts in eleven minutes of play before Northwest got on the board with a goal by Tyler Hopp.

The Raiders continued to find scoring opportunities late in the game, but the Eagles maintained their 1-0 lead until the final buzzer to pick up their first win on the early season.

Up Next: The Raiders will host a pair of games on September 2-3 at the NWC Soccer Complex in the Pizza Ranch Classic. Northwestern will face Ottawa (Kan.) on Friday and Trinity Christian (Ill.) on Saturday, with both games set to begin at 5 p.m.
