Bahrke Announces 2022-23 Track and Field Schedule

Raiders to return to the oval in December

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's and women's track and field teams will kick off their season at the Bulldog Early Bird Meet on December 9, 2022 as head coach Scott Bahrke debuted the 2022-23 Raider track and field schedule.

The Raiders will compete in eight indoor meets from December to March and have nine appearances scheduled for the spring outdoor season.

Following the Bulldog Early Bird meet hosted by Concordia (Neb.), Northwestern will have a month away before returning at the Dordt Indoor Open on January 14, 2023. The next weekend will see the Raiders travel to Brookings for the South Dakota State University (SDSU) DII invite where they will join competitors from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ranks.

"We are excited about our meet schedule for the 2022-23 season. It offers great competition and reasonable travel," said Bahrke. "Competing in meets located in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa is nice for our fans that live in those areas."

January will close with the Mount Marty Invite held at the newly constructed Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton. Northwestern will then have two more outings in February at the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Meet and the SDSU Indoor Classic ahead of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships held at Concordia (Neb.). Northwestern placed third in the women's standings and the men finished sixth at the 2021 GPAC meet. Kennedy Kramer (Larchwood, Iowa) was the conference champion in the 400m among 23 total All-GPAC performers.

The indoor season will come to a close at the NAIA Indoor Championships, which will be the Raiders' third time competing at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex at SDSU.

"We see all divisions from NCAA DI to NAIA during the indoor and outdoor seasons, and competing twice in Brookings, S.D. ahead of the NAIA Indoor National Championship is really beneficial," Bahrke commented.

Northwestern will then move outdoors just three weeks later at the Buena Vista Outdoor Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa. That meet will mark seven-straight weeks of competition. On April 1, the Raiders will make the trip to Sioux Center to compete at the Dordt Outdoor Invitational.

Next on the schedule is the Sioux City Relays at Olson Stadium, ahead of the Red Raider Open at Korver Field at De Valois Stadium.

"We always love hosting our Red Raider Open and it will be nice that it is on a Friday and Saturday this year," said Bahrke of the home meet.

Over the weekend of April 27-29, the Raiders will split their time between the Kip Janvrin Open and the Drake Relays at Simpson College and Drake University, respectively.

The GPAC Outdoor Championships are slated for May 5 and 6, hosted at Dordt University's Open Space Park Stadium. Those who qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Championships will travel to a site yet to be determined on May 24-26. Last year's NAIA Championships were highlighted by an All-American performance from Katlyn Wiese (Holstein, Iowa) in the half marathon.

Schedules are subject to change. Please stay tuned to the men's and women's track and field schedule pages for updates.
