Raiders Drop A Pair to Jamestown in South Dakota

Eli Rash extends on-base streak to 15 games

REDFIELD, S.D. – The Northwestern College baseball team (16-22, 8-14 GPAC) traveled to South Dakota for a neutral site contest with the Jamestown Jimmies (22-21, 11-11 GPAC) in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) doubleheader, dropping both games to the Jimmies. Jaden Snyder cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double in Game 2 to drive in all the Raider runs of the contest.

GAME 1: Jamestown 7, Northwestern 0

Pitching Decisions
Win: Trei Hough (4-1)
Loss: Brett Shelton (4-5)
Save: N/A

How It Happened
Jamestown took the early 1-0 lead thanks to a solo big fly from Tayler Cullen and the Jimmies never looked back after that.

The Jimmies extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth, before breaking the game open with a five-run sixth inning to officially seal the deal, taking Game 1 7-0.

Game Notes
  • Northwestern could only muster three hits in the first game against the arm of Trei Hough.
  • Eli Rash extended his on-base streak to 14 games with a single to left in the fourth inning.
  • Brett Shelton went 5.1 innings in his tenth start of the season.
  • Brady Nicolet came in relief in the sixth inning to record the final two outs, making his fourth appearance of the season.

GAME 2: Jamestown 6, Northwestern 3

Pitching Decisions
Win: Eric Kessler (2-2)
Loss: Ryan Reynolds (1-3)
Save: Hayden Brown (2)

How It Happened
Northwestern struck first thanks to the bases clearing double from Snyder (Jr., Larchwood, Iowa/West Lyon) in the second inning to take the 3-0 lead early. Jamestown would respond with one run of their own in the bottom half of the frame to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Jimmies would push across two more unanswered runs in the third and fifth innings to knot the game up at 3-3.

Jamestown would push across the game-winning run in the eighth inning with an RBI single with the bases loaded to take the 4-3 lead, but a Raider defensive miscue would allow a couple more runs to cross the plate to make it the final score of 6-3.

Game Notes
  • The Raiders mustered more hits in game two, totaling eight, but was outhit by the Jimmies for the second straight game.
  • Jaden Snyder tallies his fourth multi-RBI game of the season, his first game with more than two RBIs.
  • Mason Porepp was the lone Raider to notch a multi-hit game in the doubleheader, recording his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Eli Rash collected a hit in each of the two games, extending his on-base streak to 15 games.
  • Brady Roberts got the nod in Game 2, tossing 5.0 solid innings. He scattered six hits and allowed three runs (two earned), striking out six.
  • Ben Zeutenhorst made his seventh appearance of the year, throwing an inning.
  • Shane Geurink tossed 0.2 in his eighth nod of the season, and Ryan Reynolds went 1.1 innings in his 14th showing of the year.

STAT OF THE GAME:
2 – Northwestern tallied two stolen bases in the doubleheader.

Up Next: Northwestern will swing by Sioux City on their way back east to face the Morningside Mustangs (24-14, 10-10 GPAC) in a GPAC doubleheader tomorrow from MercyOne Field at Lewis and Clark Park. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
