Red Raiders Battle Midland in Top-15 Clash This Weekend

Winner will take sole possession of second-place in the league standings

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – After moving up a spot in the most recent National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) coaches' poll, the No. 3-ranked Northwestern College football team (7-1, 7-1 GPAC) has what is proving to be one of their most important games of the season this weekend when the No. 15-ranked Midland Warriors (8-1, 7-1 GPAC) comes to town.

RAIDERS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON HOME SLATE
  • The newly ranked No. 3 Red Raiders play in front of the home crowd for the final time in the regular season on Saturday.
  • No. 15-ranked Midland comes to town, the winner leaving the field with sole possession of second-place in the GPAC.
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series over the Warriors 37-12, winners of five-straight in the series.
NWC NOTABLES
  • Northwestern has outscored opponents 355-75 in their eight games.
  • The Raiders are now just one of three NAIA teams to average north of 200 yards in both passing and rushing per game.
  • Northwestern ended October 4-0 and improves to 23-3 under Matt McCarty in the month, and remains undefeated since 2019 (15-0).  
  • NWC is 59-2 since 2010 when the team rushes for 200+ yards.
  • The Red Raiders hold a +10-turnover margin through eight games.
  • NWC continues to lead the NAIA in 3rd down conversions (57%).

THE CHASE FOR 200 CAREER RECEPTIONS
  • Both Cade Moser (196) and Michael Storey (182) stare down the 200-career reception mark.
  • Currently, only Shane Solberg (2017-20) is the only Red Raider in program history to achieve 200+ receptions (282).
RECAPPING BRIAR CLIFF
  • The Raiders dismantled Briar Cliff for the 20th-straight win in series history.
  • The offense had 499 yards and Jalyn Gramstad threw for three touchdown passes in the first half.
  • Cade Moser returned from injury last week, catching eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
LAST MEETING VS. MIDLAND
  • The two teams met back on Sept. 11, 2021 where the game went to overtime down in Fremont, Neb. – the first overtime game for Northwestern since the 2014 season.
  • The Red Raiders would prevail 25-29 thanks to a Blake Fryar rushing touchdown in overtime.
  • Fryar threw for 332 yards (2 TD, 2 INT), while Cade Moser had 125 receiving yards and one touchdown on five receptions.

  • The Raiders lead the all-time series over Midland 37-12, dating back to the 1961 season.
  • Northwestern has won five-straight in the series, and holds a 16-4 mark at home.
  • Matt McCarty holds a 5-1 record against the Warriors in his time as the head coach at Northwestern.
